Do you ever find yourself really stressed out?
I have to go to physical therapy for my neck. I have these knots that tighten up in my neck and shoulders. Those knots turn into tension headaches. Those tension headaches turn into migraines.
Besides the exercises that I do, my therapist has to stretch my neck to loosen those muscles. After I had missed a couple of weeks over the holidays, I returned to the clinic, unable to freely move my neck without pain. As he moved my neck in all different directions, he mentioned how tight my muscles were. He said, “Could this be stress related?”

Our household has a family group text. This was sent to the group text this week…
Do you see that? Do you see that little message I highlighted at the bottom of the text? The one from the first child that I gave birth to, and have fed and clothed for close to 19 years?
Yes. Let’s all laugh about mom’s stress. You all are so funny…
I promptly responded with a snippy little text letting them know, that if it were not for my stress and subsequent nagging, they would all be in big trouble. This last week, I have thrown all kinds of possibilities out there.
If I were not around:
-Derek wouldn’t be home to feed the children – therefore DCFS would take them away.
-Isaac wouldn’t have paid his speeding ticket on time – therefore he would be in jail.
-Russ and Jono would not have clean laundry – therefore they will smell gross and never find someone to marry them!
I may have been a little too dramatic…
Still – you know what I mean.
Isaac flew back to IL over New Year’s weekend. I think this is the first time he had flown with out a parent. My brother graciously dropped him off at the airport for me, so, I wasn’t even there to make sure he knew where he was going. (I think my brother knew that I would be a little overbearing. He might have been trying to save Isaac the embarrassment.)
I still stressed out.
I texted him after he checked his bag, I texted him while he was in security, while he was in security, while he was in security (security was really busy that day). I texted him when he was at the gate, when he was seated on the plane, when he landed at his first stop, when he found that gate, when he was about to be seated again, when he landed.
I now realize just how annoying I must have been. I’m sorry, Isaac!
This is just one example of my many obsessive episodes. I’m not writing this to tell anyone how to fix it, because I have no idea. I just want to know that I’m not alone.
That little meme was so true. The only thing that it did not include is the “stress paralysis” that sometimes happens right after a stressful situation – for me, a migraine.
Later in the weekend, this happened…
Did you see that? Did you see “thanks for caring though”? Did you see the smiley faces and heart? (I did see the laugh out loud emoji, but I’m going to ignore that right now.)
The reason we stress is because we care. We love them. We’re moms. My mom has told me that you always worry about your kids, the worry just changes as they get older.
I know each family and each situation is different. I also know, that we all love our families and we stress out from time to time. It’s normal, and we all experience it.
I guess the only remedy I have found to this problem I have, is trust. I have to trust that they are smart. I trust that they have heard everything I have told them over, and over, and over. I trust that their character will guide their choices. I trust that God is in control.
So, please don’t stress about the stress that you are going to be stressed out about. Let’s just take it one stress at a time, and know that we are not alone.
