I know that social media has its drawbacks, BUT it does have its advantages as well. One of my favorite things to do is look at my memories on Facebook each day. Some days are boring, other days are wild. Either way, it gives me a chance to reflect. I think about the different stages of life that I have had the joy of experiencing.
Today my memories included but were not limited to the following:
- Family vacations
- Visiting the doctor
- Playing games as a family
- Reposting mom blogs
- Christmas with family
- Events at work
- Inspirational quotes
Today, especially, I noticed a theme. Not in every post, but mingled throughout was the power of God.
The first post was about teaching our kids a card game. This was a game that my husband and I played when we first met. I reflected on those nineteen year old kids, and how my nemesis became my best friend. Those kids had no idea why God had brought them together or about the life they had ahead of them.

Several posts were about one family vacation to Florida over Christmas break. One post was our obligatory picture in the vehicle as we take off. Another was a funny quote by my youngest child. Others were about the breakdown we experienced with our car.

We had just finished a meal. As we drove away form the restaurant, we knew something was seriously wrong with our car. BUT at that very moment, we were driving past a dealership that would fix the problem.
This little mishap added several hours to our trip. It also deducted a small fortune from our vacation budget (just kidding, we didn’t budget). But God already had a solution for our problem.
Why it happened? Who knows! Maybe God was just trying to teach my husband patience (see what I did there?). Maybe there was a lesson for our kids during this ordeal. Maybe we avoided an accident.
We may never know why these things happen – why God allows a problem that He has essentially already solved. Why we go through the frustration, and sometimes, the pain.
Actually, I think we do know, right? We know it is a lesson. It’s an opportunity to see and experience God’s grace. To learn more about Him. To learn more about us. To realize His power is greater than anything we can do on our own. To learn to trust. To know God.
