I’m thinking I should change the name of my blog from “Boys Will Be Joys” to “My Overthought Thoughts” or “My Ruminations”.
Because let’s face it, my boys are not as cute as they used to be…(this is a test – to see if my boys read my blog). Even though they’re still funny, they don’t provide quite as much material.
I’m just kidding. I could never do that. All 13 of my followers would be so confused.
Back to overthought thoughts. In most situations, I overthink every detail. To the outsider, it can be quite entertaining. To me, not so much.
Let me give you an example:
On vacation last week, I almost wore myself out, with my thoughts, while drying my hair.
I washed my hair, and used the hair dryer that was provided in the bathroom. I quickly realized that the hair dryer was producing cold air. I checked all the settings and tried all the tricks. Still cold air.

Normal people would have stopped after a minute and borrowed one from another room, right?
NOT ME!
I started thinking that a cold hair dryer must be a new trend in beauty. This dryer was cute and looked new…so it couldn’t be broken. Someone would have told them it was broken. If someone told them it was broken, they would have replaced it. The cold air must be part of the design.
Then I started thinking about how I had not heard of this yet… This was upsetting… I mean, I was in the beauty industry for 20+ years… How can I be so far removed from the latest trends that I have not heard about cold hair dryers??? What other trends have come along that I don’t know about??? How did I get so detached from society that I’m missing out on such basic beauty industry information???
Then I realized that I had been working on drying my hair for about 10 minutes and it was not even close to dry. My hair is so fine that it’s usually dry in about 3 minutes flat. This cold hair dryer thing was not working.
Then I realized my arms were tired and my whole body was freezing because I was blowing cold air on my wet hair.
Should I go ask to borrow someone’s hair dryer??? My nieces had a hair dryer, but they’re young and hip… If this was a trend, then their hair dryer would probably blow cold air, too, right??? I didn’t want to ask them if this was a thing because they would have thought I was old and out of touch… Or, if it’s not a thing, they would have thought I was stupid for asking if using a cold hair dryer is a thing…
“Ugh! Just bite the bullet,” I told myself. “They already know you’re old. You’re never going to get your hair dry at this rate.”
I borrowed their hair dryer – which was not a cold hair dryer. I asked them if there was a new trend with cold hair dryers. They said, “No”.
My hair was dry in 30 seconds.
